Check focus, ownership and composition first
This reference describes the verified Console 0.8.0 archive. Console command input, program input and temporary text controls are different input owners. Keyboard focus alone does not transfer a draft to another owner. Check the focused control and the prompt's owner/phase label before using a shortcut.
Temporary text controls keep their editing keys local. A modal dialog also prevents main-view actions from reaching the prompt behind it. Dismiss temporary UI before requesting Stop or EOF. Ordinary input-method processing consumes candidate navigation and confirmation before command recall, prompt submission or a search action. Enter confirms active composition only; a later Enter submits or searches. With an incomplete Local Compose sequence, Enter retains and cancels that unfinished sequence; a later Enter submits the unchanged committed draft. Up / Down can select candidates before they can recall commands.
Main-view Ctrl+C, Ctrl+D and Ctrl+L are separate reserved application actions, with the context rules below. They do not require confirming composition first. Focus loss, EOF, Stop or ownership changes retain visible unfinished composition separately from committed text. Retained work remains with its original owner and is never automatically inserted into the next prompt or command history. See composition and ownership and paused editing.
Edit the focused text
| Key or action | Effect |
|---|---|
Ctrl+Shift+C |
Copy logical selected text in the focused main-view control. Scrollback Copy excludes record labels, soft wraps and display-only direction isolation. |
Ctrl+Shift+V |
Paste text into the focused editable prompt or search field. It never submits. |
| Cut, Select all, Undo, Redo | Apply to the focused control, where supported. Scrollback is read-only. |
Tab / Shift+Tab |
Move focus. They do not complete commands or insert source. |
Enter with composition |
Confirm native text only, before a later submit/search action. |
Paste never trims a trailing LF, splits lines or submits. Invalid insertion, including multiline paste, leaves committed text and selection unchanged. Command drafts refuse NUL, CR and LF and have a 65,536-byte UTF-8 limit including quoting. Program input permits NUL but refuses CR/LF and has a 65,536-byte payload limit before the added LF. Literal U+2028/U+2029 stay text, including on Copy and Cut. See command syntax and program sending.
With editing paused or a prompt read-only, mutation, paste and submission are unavailable; selection/copy and Settings remain available. Retry does not replay keys or submit retained work. In the Fcitx route, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+U opens Unicode search and Ctrl+Shift+U starts direct hexadecimal input. Those bindings use physical Latin keys in both supported layouts. See Fcitx prerequisites and explicit Retry.
Use a command-ready prompt
| Key | Effect when command-ready |
|---|---|
Enter |
Submit the committed Console command. A spaces/tabs-only line does nothing. |
Up / Down |
Recall older/newer window-local commands after composition processing, without executing. Down past newest restores the saved draft. |
Ctrl+C |
Cancel the current command draft and reset its editing/recall state. It is not the main-view Copy binding. |
Ctrl+L |
Clear scrollback while preserving the command draft, current directory and command history. |
Ctrl+D |
No program EOF action when no run owns stdin. |
History is separate from scrollback, has no program input and is discarded when the window closes. See recall and history limits and clear / مسح.
While a filesystem operation is pending, its prompt is read-only. Ctrl+C requests cancellation; it does not undo created directories. Ctrl+L is unavailable. Ownership remains with the operation until completion or confirmed helper exit. See filesystem cancellation.
Use the program-owned prompt
| Context / key | Effect |
|---|---|
Running / Enter |
Submit one committed input line with an added LF while stdin is open. An empty draft sends a blank line. Even exit, settings or run is program input. |
Starting, Sending, Stopping, Finalizing / Enter |
Prompt is read-only; no extra line is queued. |
Ctrl+C |
Request Stop. Retain unsent draft/composition under that run; it is not a Copy action. Repeating Stop does not restart escalation. Finalizing continues to its observed outcome. |
Ctrl+D |
Request program EOF after pending submitted input drains, without sending the current draft or a blank line. During Starting it does nothing. |
Up / Down |
Do not recall Console commands during a run. Composition can still use candidate navigation. |
Ctrl+L |
Unavailable while the run owns the prompt. |
EOF does not Stop the program or close the window. Stop cannot undo delivered input or file/network effects. The command prompt returns only after confirmed launch cancellation or observed child exit and finalization, not merely because a key was pressed. Read EOF, Stop and close and run phases.
Use temporary controls locally
| Context / key | Effect |
|---|---|
Ctrl+F |
Open temporary Find output for case-sensitive literal search of retained logical text. |
Search / Enter or Shift+Enter |
After composition processing, find next/previous without wrapping. No command or program input is submitted. |
Search / Escape |
Dismiss search and return focus to the live prompt. Visible unfinished composition stays with its old owner. |
Temporary text / Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and editing |
Conventional copy/paste and local editing, including during a run. Main-view Stop, EOF and clearing do not pass through to the prompt behind this control. |
Temporary dialogs / Escape or Cancel |
Dismiss according to the dialog. Settings Cancel discards unapplied choices; an immediate input-route Retry is not undone. |
F1 |
Open the temporary keyboard reference. |
Ctrl+Comma |
Open temporary Settings without submitting the draft, including during a run. |
The settings / إعدادات command opens Settings only when command-ready. During a run those words belong to the program. Use Ctrl+Comma instead. Dismiss temporary controls and focus the main view before Stop or EOF. See output search and Settings Apply/Cancel.
Navigate reading and live following
| Key | Effect in the main view |
|---|---|
Ctrl+1 |
Focus read-only scrollback. |
Ctrl+2 |
Follow the end and focus the live prompt, without changing its owner. |
Shift+PageUp / Shift+PageDown |
Page scrollback. These main-view actions do not override temporary text editing. |
Ctrl+Shift+End |
Resume live output following. |
Typing ordinary text while scrollback is focused returns to the live prompt and routes text to its current owner; a read-only prompt still refuses editing. Reading older output and incoming output do not change the run or command history. See following and logical selection/copy.
Adjust zoom and find Settings
Ctrl+Plus / Ctrl+Minus change window-local zoom by 10 percentage points between 50% and 200%. Ctrl+0 resets it to 100%. Zoom is separate from the saved base font size and does not change copied text. Use fonts and base size for saved choices.
Ctrl+O, Ctrl+R and Ctrl+Enter have no source-picker or remembered-run action; those controls were removed. Save source externally and use run / تشغيل. F1 shows the in-app reference; Ctrl+Comma opens Settings.
